Snap Recalls All Pixy Selfie Drones

The American company Snap said it was recalling all sold Pixy devices due to the threat of a sudden battery fire. Pixy is a cute, compact drone, yellow in color, square in shape with rounded corners, and weighs only about 100g. The quadcopter is equipped with a built-in camera that films the owner while Pixy flies around him. Sales of the drone began in April 2022.

Snap and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said people should “immediately stop using the Pixy flying camera, remove the battery, and stop charging it.” This action was prompted by four reports of a swollen battery, one fire and one “minor injury.” The company promises to return at least $185, although the devices themselves were sold for $230.

To receive a refund, you must return the drone without the battery by first filling out the form on the product website and indicating the serial number of the device. You will have to dispose of the battery yourself, and Snap strongly discourages disposing of batteries in containers at hardware stores.

In total, 71 thousand units of products should be recalled, this is not only the drones themselves, but also their batteries, which were sold separately. Absolutely all manufactured devices are being recalled, as the American regulator emphasizes.
