Chinese company Kaiwa Technology has developed and promised to release a robot with an artificial womb for carrying a human fetus from conception to full maturity. All previous projects of this kind were versions of stationary incubators .
The robot is a life-size humanoid with an artificial uterus built into its abdominal cavity. The technology involves the development of the fetus in artificial amniotic fluid with nutrients delivered through a special tube. The system is designed to reproduce the full cycle from conception to birth, which lasts ten months.
Zhang Qifeng said the basic technology of the artificial womb has already been tested in the lab. The next step involves integrating the system into a humanoid form to provide interaction with users during the gestation process.
The developers promise to release their robot on the market as early as 2026 at a price no more than $14 thousand, but this must obviously be preceded by public discussion and legislative acts.
