Permanent Chat Channels Are Coming To Reddit
Reddit is testing another option for interacting with users: chat channels are added to selected subreddits, which will allow members of the community to conduct topical chats in real time.
On a discussion website, chat channels are an additional way for members to “fun and casual” chat on their favorite subreddits. This feature also allows “moderators” to have their own convenient places to manage their communities without having to leave Reddit.
Reddit has already tested group messages in subreddits, so this is not a new experiment. Subreddit chats were introduced by the company in 2018. However, they were discontinued in 2020 as they never became widely known.
Chat channels announcement, two other small Reddit updates came together. The company has released a new subreddit header that bridges the gap between the header and posts, turns the search bar into a single button, and displays tabs like “menu” and “about me” by clicking anywhere in the header. Reddit claims that these updates increase the community’s following and test activity.
