Nothing Plans To Release Its Next Smartphone On The US
Startup Nothing is in talks with US carriers to launch a new smartphone in the US. It is reported by CNBC with reference to the head of the company Karl Pei.
The startup behind Carl Pei, one of the founders of the world-famous Chinese brand OnePlus, has already introduced its Phone (1) smartphone in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, but it has not appeared in the US and Canada. In terms of features and price, the Nothing Phone (1) is comparable to the iPhone SE.
The company has not yet been able to make its way into the US due to technical difficulties. In particular, the manufacturer complains that each local mobile operator requires a unique Android customization.
Pei believes that there is some interest in the company’s products in the United States and this will allow the business to grow significantly if a new smartphone is released. The company says that its revenues in 2022 increased more than 10 times – from $20 million in 2021 to an estimated $250 million this year.
Although Pei intends to challenge Apple in the US, he has a lot of work to do along the way. iOS with its services occupies an increasingly dominant position in the country. Pei does not rule out that over time, Apple will take 80% of the market here, leaving no room for development for manufacturers of Android models. The head of the company added that Apple’s 30 percent commission in the App Store is a serious “ceiling” for business growth.
To date, Nothing has sold over 1 million products worldwide, including 600,000 pairs of Ears (1) and 500,000 Phones (1).
