New York Bans TikTok On Government Devices
The administration of New York Mayor Eric Adams said that TikTok is allegedly dangerous for the city’s technical networks. City agencies must remove the app from devices and networks within 30 days.
New York State has also banned TikTok from its mobile devices.
TikTok, for its part, said this “has not and will not provide U.S. user data to the Chinese government, and has taken significant steps to protect the privacy and security of TikTok users.”
Senior US security officials, including FBI Director Christopher Wray and CIA Director William Burns, have said TikTok is a threat. Ray said the Chinese government could use the app to control software on millions of devices and create narratives to divide Americans.
Last November, TikTok acknowledged that the Chinese headquarters could access the personal data of users from all over the world. This confession followed an investigation into spying on journalists.
