Netflix Is Working On A Reality Show With Squid Game-style Competitions And The Biggest Prize Pool In TV History

The show, called Squid Game: The Challenge, will have 456 players competing against it, just like the original Korean series. They will take part in competitions inspired by the original, but the organizers are going to introduce challenges that were not in it.

The losers of each stage will be eliminated until only one participant remains.

The winner will receive the largest cash prize in television history, $4.56 million. According to Netflix, the lineup will also be the largest for a reality show.

Netflix hasn’t specified how closely the show will replicate The Squid Game itself.  It is not clear whether they will keep all the participants in the same room, but apparently they do not plan to kill anyone.

The recording of the competition is planned to be divided into ten episodes.

The casting of the “Test” participants began on a special website, and people from all over the world can apply. The only condition is a good command of spoken English in order to understand the rules of the game.  Communication in other languages during the competition will not be prohibited.

If successful, Netflix plans to adapt the reality show in other languages as well.

When filming will begin and when The Trial will be released is currently unknown.

A few days before the reality show was announced, Netflix greenlit a second season of The Squid Game, set to release no earlier than late 2023.
