Meta Provides Paid Subscription To Social Networks Without Advertising

Meta is launching a special paid subscription on the social networks Facebook and Instagram, which will hide all advertisements. The service is available throughout the European Union and costs €9.99 per month for the web version and €12.99 for iOS and Android devices.

The paid subscription is designed to solve the problems that the American company faced in the European Union due to changing regulations in the online advertising segment. In fact, users will have to choose between using social networks without advertising for money (in which case their data will not be used for advertising purposes) or for free, but with advertising content (in which case users consent to the processing of their data). Meta believes that the introduction of a paid subscription will allow the company to more clearly and definitively meet the privacy requirements established by current EU legislation, including the Digital Markets Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We respect the purpose of these evolving European rules and are committed to complying with them,” Meta says.

Earlier this year, the Irish data protection authority fined Meta €390 million for breaching data protection rules. At the same time, Meta was prohibited from using the so-called contractual legal basis for serving personalized advertising based on tracked user activity.
