Meta Decided Not To Launch Its Twitter Analogue In The EU For Now

The app, called Threads and connected to Instagram, has appeared on the Apple App Store so users can sign up for a download on Thursday when it’s released. The app appears to work in the same way as Twitter, with a focus on public conversations, and users can follow people they already follow on Instagram.

According to European media, citing data from the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), the new social network will indeed not be deployed in the European Union. After Brexit, the UK is not subject to EU laws, so Threads will work there. According to Neowin, a similar scenario was implemented with Google Bard AI – it is available in the United Kingdom, but not yet in the European Union.

According to media reports, European regulators did not block the premiere, this was done by the management of Meta itself – the company decided not to start working in the region for the time being due to possible problems with regulators. Those wishing to use Threads in the EU will have to wait for Meta to make a decision to bring the services in line with EU data protection laws.

If Meta makes a big announcement on Threads’ launch day, it’s likely the company will announce the EU premiere time as well. Otherwise, users from Europe can only wait for news.
