Lyft’s Next-Generation Scooters
Lyft wants to create a more organized shared micromobility environment by reducing the number of free-floating scooters and increasing the number of securely docked vehicles. To realize that, the company on Thursday unveiled the next generation of electric scooters and state-of-the-art docking stations.
Lyft will gradually roll out new scooters and possibly new docking stations in cities where the scooter-sharing network currently operates (Chicago, Denver, Washington, DC, and Minneapolis), starting in DC. The new e-scooters will be shipped to the capital to run alongside the old units for the rest of their lives, with 1,000 more scooters to be introduced by mid-2023, a spokesperson told TechCrunch.
The company has also redesigned its steel bollards to make them more resistant to corrosion and rust, and, thereby, easier to maintain. It has also added solar cells to the bollards and found a way to make them more power efficient.
