Logitech Unveils Wireless Keyboard That Charges From a Light Bulb

Logitech has unveiled the Signature Slim Solar+ K980, a wireless keyboard that uses light as its sole power source. The device features Logitech’s Logi LightCharge technology, which allows the keyboard to be charged using sunlight or artificial light.
Essentially, the new product lacks a USB port to recharge the battery in low-light conditions. Furthermore, there are no dedicated LED indicators on the case to indicate whether the ambient light level is optimal for charging. To monitor these parameters, a proprietary utility must be installed on a PC. Charging is noted to occur in ambient light conditions of at least 200 lux. The built-in LED changes from green to red when charging is required.
The keyboard and built-in battery are rated for a ten-year lifespan, and a full charge should last four months of use in complete darkness. However, if sufficient light falls on the desktop, the keyboard will last, if not forever, then the promised ten years. However, if mechanical wear and tear does not prevent the keyboard from being used beyond this limit, the user can purchase and replace the built-in battery themselves.

The Logitech Signature Slim Solar+ K980 will be available worldwide on September 24, 2025. The Universal and macOS versions are priced at $100, while the Business version is priced at $110.
