Developers Bloober Team announced Layers of Fear 3, a new installment in the acclaimed psychological horror series. To celebrate the announcement, a live-action trailer was released, but no actual gameplay was shown.
As Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno explained, Layers of Fear is more than just a game from the past for the studio. After all, it was from it that Bloobers realized what kind of studio they wanted to be and what kind of games they wanted to make. Today’s event is meant to honor this legacy and show “that Layers of Fear is still alive.”
In the threequel’s teaser, a man reads William Blake’s poem “The Sick Rose” in a richly decorated room. Viewers are shown a portrait of a woman, presumably the “sick rose,” and another painting depicting a withered humanoid figure—possibly the same woman, but disfigured by illness. The canvas falls, and the reader assures them not to worry about his “little friend,” who hasn’t yet understood the afterlife: “He’s only trying to help.”
As for Layers of Fear 3, the developers of the third installment intend to maintain the series’ psychological focus, but are not yet ready to reveal any other details about the project. The announcement video is titled “The Sick Rose.” The game does not yet have a list of target platforms or even an approximate release date.
