Huawei Releases HarmonyOS 6 Beta: For Developers Only
At its annual developer conference on June 20, Huawei officially unveiled the beta version of HarmonyOS 6. This is the second major version of the company’s in-house operating system, which completely abandons support for Android apps.
According to Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer business, version 5 of the HarmonyOS operating system has already been installed on more than 40 Huawei device models, more than 8 million developers are registered in the company’s ecosystem, and more than 30,000 applications and services running on this platform are available to customers. Of this number, the main time of use by customers fell on about 5,000 of the most popular applications, and from this point of view, Huawei’s solutions are still significantly behind both the Apple ecosystem and Google Android. In order to facilitate the creation of AI agents, the Chinese company offered developers the HarmonyOS Agent Framework toolkit.
At the event, Huawei CEO Richard Yu outlined the progress of HarmonyOS and its app ecosystem. According to Yu, the OS ecosystem now has more than 30,000 apps and meta-services, and more than 1,200 software products have been developed using its open-source variant, OpenHarmony.
