Ciri gets the main role in “The Witcher 4”
CD Projekt Red has announced that Ciri will play the lead role in “The Witcher 4”, sparking mixed reactions among fans.
The company confirms that the new game will be focused on Ciri’s fate. While some welcome this decision, others express concerns about potential deviations from the books.
Despite these concerns, CD Projekt Red has demonstrated their ability to adapt the world of “The Witcher,” capturing the essence of the original story without strictly adhering to it. This is proved by the success of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” which expanded the stories of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri beyond the books. “The Witcher 4” will continue the development of these characters, placing Ciri in the main role.

In the previous game, players could influence Ciri’s fate through their decisions, leading to different endings, including her death, becoming the Empress of Nilfgaard, or taking the path of a witcher. These various storylines will shape the narrative of “The Witcher 4,” exploring Ciri’s development based on prior events.
The sequel will once again be based on moral choices that players must make, leading to different consequences for the main character.
Narrative director Philipp Weber, who also served as a quest designer in the previous game, acknowledges that the decision to center the story around Ciri might be controversial for fans accustomed to Geralt as the protagonist. However, he emphasizes that this is a deliberate choice, allowing them to tell new and intriguing stories focused on Ciri’s development as a witcher.
“The Witcher 4” is currently in active development, with no official release date announced yet.
