According to analytics firm Appfigures, the ChatGPT mobile app reached a new milestone this week of $3 billion in global consumer spending. This metric represents total user spending across iOS and Android devices since the app’s launch in May 2023.

ChatGPT’s main source of revenue remains its paid subscriptions, ChatGPT Plus for $20 per month and Pro for $200. This week, OpenAI launched its own app store within ChatGPT, which could potentially also generate revenue.

The closest growth rate to ChatGPT is currently achieved by Grok, a chatbot from Elon Musk’s xAI, which is available to users of the X subscription. It is demonstrating the best results among its competitors in the AI app market. Google is experimenting with advertising in AI search and other features, while Anthropic is focusing on the enterprise segment and plans to reach $70 billion in revenue by 2028.

In 2025, consumers spent $2.48 billion on the ChatGPT mobile app, a 408% increase from $487 million in 2024 and a 5780% increase from $42.5 million in 2023.
