Burying All Earthly Secrets On The Moon – What Lonestar Startup Plans
The company wants to install servers and store all human knowledge inside the moon. «Why, what if the Earth dies?» the creators of the startup admit.
The idea of Lonestar Data Holdings proposes to leave data on the Moon in server equipment during future lunar missions, which can be placed inside the earth satellite.
The company believes that this is the safest place to store important information. Meanwhile, an asteroid the size of 4 giant skyscrapers is rushing towards Earth, what are the forecasts of astronomers.
The CEO motivates this decision by the fact that earthly storage facilities are subject to any form of destruction, such as war or cyber attacks. And one of the key benefits of storing data on the Moon is that its near side always faces Earth, making line-of-sight communication relatively easy.
Lonestar has signed a contract with NASA-funded aerospace company Intuitive Machines to launch the first technology demonstrations to the Moon as part of the space agency’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services program.
During the second launch, due next year, Lonestar plans to send its first hardware prototype to the moon with 16 terabytes of memory.
The company still has many hurdles to overcome. First, the soft landing of almost any object on the Moon is extremely difficult. That’s why Lonestar plans to store its centers inside the lunar lava tubes that line the Moon’s surface.
