Boston Dynamics Showcases Atlas Robot’s Acrobatic Abilities

Boston Dynamics introduced the robot to a simulated construction site, where the robot delivered a bag of tools.

Now the robot has received hands that bring its abilities even closer to human ones. He can pick up and throw various objects, as shown in the video. His “brushes” consist of fixed and movable “fingers”. Boston Dynamics says the grips were designed for heavy lifting and were first shown in a Super Bowl 2023 ad, with Atlas holding a keg over his head.

In a short video, the robot demonstrates the ability not only to move freely in space without wires and insurance. He also demonstrates how he can overcome problems in order to achieve his goals. For example, how to deliver a bag if there is no ladder, he takes a board and puts it between the box and the scaffolding in the form of a bridge. And to go down, he pushes another box and jumps on it.

According to Atlas team leader Scott Quindersm, the video is a demonstration of the new robot control capabilities. In Atlas hope to create a technology that will allow to easily adapt such dynamics to perform physically complex work.
