Apple-1 Bayville Sold at Auction for $375,000
One of the most valuable relics in the history of computer technology was sold at an auction in the United States – a fully working copy of the legendary Apple-1, known as Bayville, which changed hands for $375,000.
The device has serial number 91 in the official Apple-1 Registry, which unites all known surviving Apple-1 computers and contains detailed information and history of each of them. There are currently only 104 Apple-1 computers in the registry.
The Bayville Apple-1 was part of the first batch of computers sold in 1976 and has a handwritten serial number, which is believed to have been applied by Jobs himself. The original manual with a handwritten note by Daniel Kottke, the twelfth Apple employee, was attached to the device.
This lot was sold along with many other Apple-related items as part of the “Steve Jobs and the Apple Revolution” auction. The total amount raised from the auction amounted to $1,308,251, proving that nostalgia for the technological past and Jobs’ revolutionary visions still excite collectors and enthusiasts around the world.
