An AI-Focused Film Festival Is Coming To New York In February

An AI-focused film festival is coming to New York in February. Filmmakers can user green screen, text-to-image and other AI techniques in their movies

The organizers of the Runway ML AI Arts Festival are accepting films between one and 10 minutes in length that either contain AI-generated content or have been merged using AI-based editing techniques.

“I think we are moving towards a future that will create a lot of the content, entertainment and media that you see online,” said Runway co-founder and CEO Cristobal Valenzuela.

While many observers worry that AI-generated content could crowd out creatives, proponents like Valenzuela suggest that such tools could level the playing field for aspiring filmmakers.

“What really excites me is how AI really opens doors for non-tech people and creatives in general,” he said.

The AI Film Festival is scheduled to take place in February online and in New York. The application window is open until January 15th. This usually doesn’t give creatives much time to create and ship, but with the help of AI, they can put the film together a lot faster.
