Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group unveiled its first wearable gadget, the Quark AI smart glasses, at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. The device, named after the company’s AI assistant, will go on sale before the end of this year, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), but the exact date has not yet been announced.
Quark AI is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chip and uses two operating systems: Android and Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). According to him, Quark AI is distinguished by a thin frame and its temples are 40% thinner than industry standards.
The top manager noted the support of smart glasses for the Alibaba software ecosystem, which includes the Taobao online trading platform, the Amap mapping application, and the Alipay mobile payment solution.
It is reported that with the help of Quark AI smart glasses, users will be able to make payments via Alipay by scanning QR codes of sellers’ products, check prices of goods on Taobao, and use navigation services from Amap while hiking and cycling.
Alibaba has previously collaborated with AR glasses maker RayNeo, providing software support for its devices. The new device represents the IT giant’s next step in strengthening its position in the field of artificial intelligence.
