Google Is Getting Ready To Launch Its “Find My Device” Network

Google’s Find My Device network was officially announced last year. Its job is to use a huge number of Android devices to search for missing smartphones, headphones and trackers. However, the launch of the network was delayed

Find My Device will be able to determine the location of the smartphone even if it is disconnected from the Internet. It will also help you find headphones, headsets, and trackers that support Fast Pair, even if they are not connected to any device. In a letter to beta testers, Google indicated that the network would launch “in three days,” which would most likely be Monday, April 8—almost a year after the announcement.

This delay is due to the fact that Google and Apple jointly developed an industry standard that does not allow malicious tracking of other people’s movements, as happened with AirTag released by Apple in 2021. The same protection will appear in iOS 17.5.

The email also contains a link that allows users to opt out of being added to this network. This is important to mention because networking seems to be enabled by default. When you select the setting, Google notes that the feature applies to all Android devices tied to that Google account.
