US Justice Department Demands Google Sell Chrome
The US government’s desire to separate the Chrome browser from Google is no longer a secret, but this week it took on a legally significant form. According to Reuters, the US prosecutor’s office urged the court to compel Google to take appropriate action.
According to him, in addition to selling Chrome, the prosecutor’s office also asked the courts to prohibit the corporation from entering the browser market for five years as part of antitrust measures.
In addition, the Ministry of Justice seeks to prohibit Google from entering into contracts with Apple and other companies regarding the installation of a search engine on smartphones and in browsers. They also want to oblige the corporation to share data with competitors for 10 years. “The rules of the game are not equal due to the actions of Google,” which benefits from an illegally obtained advantage, the plaintiff’s lawyers noted in court documents.
The defendant intends to submit its own proposals to correct the situation by December 20, and the court hearing will take place in April of next year, if the rise to power of Donald Trump does not affect the course of the case by then.
