A Piece Of Space Debris From The ISS Crashed IntoAa Residential Building In Florida

A piece of debris weighing almost a kilogram, which was thrown from the International Space Station in 2021, fell onto the roof of a house in Florida. The object is currently being studied by NASA.

In 2021, the ISS dropped a giant 2.9-ton spent battery pack that entered the atmosphere over the Gulf of Mexico a few weeks ago. According to NASA calculations, the block should have burned completely, but some of its fragments still reached the earth’s surface and one of them crashed into Otero’s residential building, which he reported on March 15 on his account on the social network X, accompanying his post with photographs of an unidentified destructive object . It seems that in his message he made a grammatical error in the phrase “Almost hit my son”.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has also acknowledged that some debris from the ISS may reach the Earth’s surface. If NASA confirms that the debris that fell on Otero’s home in March 2024 came from the ISS, it would not be the first such situation involving property damage resulting from an object falling from orbit.
