Humanoid Robot To Replace Workers At The Mercedes-Benz Factory

Leading automobile brand Mercedes-Benz, in collaboration with Apptronik, begins testing humanoid robots Appolo on its assembly line.

When we set out to build Apollo, the agreement with Mercedes-Benz we are announcing today was a dream scenario,” said Jeff Cardenas, co-founder and CEO of Apptronik. “Mercedes plans to use robotics to automate some low-skilled and physically demanding manual labor. This is a usage model we will see in other organizations in the coming months and years.”

As part of the agreement, Mercedes-Benz is launching a pilot project to test the capabilities of Apptronik’s Apollo humanoid robot to perform various tasks in vehicle manufacturing, such as delivering assembly kits to the production line while inspecting components. The plan is to test Apollo’s ability to deliver kit parts later in the manufacturing process.

The Apollo robot is almost 173 cm tall. It weighs 72.6 kg and can lift loads weighing up to 25 kg. Appolo can operate for four hours on a single battery. Apptronik notes that their development is designed to work in industrial premises, observing safety standards. Scenarios for using a humanoid robot can be expanded using AI models.
