The Sun Experienced The Strongest Flare In Recent Years

The most powerful flare in the last 6 years occurred in the active region of the Sun. On the eve of it, flares were also recorded, the radiation from which was directed towards our planet.
According to the history of monitoring solar activity, the last time a flare of this magnitude was recorded was in 2017. Earlier this year, an X-class flare occurred in February, but was slightly weaker at X2.2. Less intense flares are designated by the letters A, B, C and M. When moving to each of them, the power increases by 10, starting with the A0.0 event with a power of 10 nW/m2. Each letter except X is assigned 10 points, while the event X is dimensionless – as many as there are, so many will be assigned. The most powerful event since the beginning of their registration (since 1976) occurred in February 2003 and was equal to X28. We are talking about measurements in the X-ray range.
According to radar data, the X2.8 flare, recorded on Thursday, is accompanied by a coronal mass ejection that appears to be moving in our direction. If this is so, then tomorrow and the day after tomorrow the cloud of plasma will reach our planet. Radio communications disruptions have already been observed as they occur when ionizing radiation enters the Earth’s atmosphere.
