The First Xiaomi Car Presented

Xiaomi, known for its smartphones and other electronics, introduced its first electric car, Xiaomi SU7. The sedan will be produced by Chinese automaker BAIC

Xiaomi SU7 turned out to be a larger sedan than Tesla Model 3 or NIO ET5. Xiaomi has dimensions of 4997 × 1963 × 1455 mm. The last dimension is related to the height of the body. The wheelbase length reaches an impressive 3000 mm. For the basic version of the electric car, the stated maximum speed is 210 km/h, but in practice in China, driving on public roads at such speeds is strictly prohibited, so it is unlikely that the electronics will allow acceleration to the limit in “civilian” driving modes.

The base Xiaomi SU7 will be offered with a single axle drive and a single electric motor with a power of 210 kW (285 hp), which will be equipped with an LFP type traction battery manufactured by BYD and weigh 1980 kg. All-wheel drive modifications with two electric motors will be called SU7 Pro and SU7 Max, their weight will reach 2205 kg, and the maximum speed will be 265 km/h. In the all-wheel drive version, the electric vehicle will be equipped with a lithium traction battery based on nickel and cobalt, which can more easily withstand negative temperatures and charges faster at express stations, but is more susceptible to fire. The power of the electric motors of the all-wheel drive version will be 220 and 275 kW, which will give a total of 495 kW or 673 hp. In some trim levels, the car will be equipped with a lidar on the roof, which will allow the functions of an advanced autopilot to be implemented. All-wheel drive versions of the car are initially equipped with an active rear spoiler that extends at a certain speed. The capacity of the traction batteries is not specified.

The new Xiaomi SU7 (formerly known as MS11 Modena) will be produced at the BAIC concern’s plant in the suburbs of Beijing. The electric sedan will cost approximately 200,000 – 260,000 yuan ($27,500 – 36,500) and will compete with the Tesla Model 3.
