Snapdragon X Elite For PC: 12 Oryon Cores And Adreno GPU

Recently, Qualcomm announced a new series of processors for PCs that should compete with Apple M – Snapdragon X. Now it has been reported that the official name of the high-performance processor based on Oryon cores is Snapdragon X Elite. Its preliminary specifications, including CPU and GPU, have already been published online. It is assumed that such a chip will be twice as productive as processors based on the x86 microarchitecture.

The Snapdragon X Elite will use 12 Oryon computing cores with a 64-bit architecture, produced using a 4nm process technology.  With all active cores, the processor will be able to operate at frequencies up to 3.8 GHz, and with one or two cores it will be automatically overclocked to 4.3 GHz. In the new chip, the manufacturer has paid significant attention to expanding support for various AI functions and algorithms, the operation of which will be provided by the Hexagon NPU AI coprocessor. Thanks to this, the Snapdragon X Elite promises a combined performance of 45 TOPS (trillion operations per second). This is 55% higher than its predecessor Snapdragon 8cx Gen3. Qualcomm says their chip will be able to deliver similar levels of performance at 1/3 the power required compared to competitors.  Unfortunately, the company does not specify which specific competitor it is referring to.

Snapdragon X Elite supports up to eight 16-bit LPDDR5X memory channels at 8533 MT/s, thereby delivering a peak throughput of 136 GB/s. The maximum supported amount of RAM is 64 GB.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit event is scheduled for October 24. The company is likely to share more details about the Snapdragon X Elite processor on it.
