Apple Reveals Its First Mixed Reality Headset “Vision Pro”

Apple has unveiled its Vision Pro mixed reality headset, which it has been working on since 2017, at its annual WWDC conference.

The Apple Vision Pro headset blends digital content with the physical world, allowing the wearer to stay present and connected with others. Vision Pro presents a fully 3D user interface controlled by eyes, hands and voice. Vision Pro glasses allow you to interact with digital content as if a person is physically present in this space. Optic ID unlock and data protection technology analyzes the user’s iris. You can connect gamepads to the glasses or play with your hands.

The Apple Vision Pro features a lightweight aluminum body, a glass front, two microLED displays with resolutions greater than 4K, a 3D camera, a Digital Crown, and two chips – M2 and R1 – for processing sensor data in real time. The battery is not built into the case, but is mounted on the side with a magnetic connection.

For control, you can use voice commands – and not only. Thanks to the presence of multiple sensors, the headset tracks the user’s gaze, understands finger tapping and swiping to scroll or select.

At WWDC 2023, Apple also announced a partnership with Disney bringing new features to Vision Pro, including improved ways to watch shows on Disney+, AR demos for basketball games, and more. However, while many of these demos appear to be work in progress, Disney CEO Robert Iger has announced that the Disney+ program will be available on Vision Pro upon launch.

The first Vision Pro mixed reality headset will cost $3,499. The companies expect the headset to go on sale in early 2024.
