NASA Conducts Critical Test of SLS Lunar Rocket Propellant

NASA has successfully completed all necessary tests of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket fuel system. This means that the launch of the Artemis-1 mission will most likely still take place on September 27th.

Artemis 1 launch director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson said the test went “very well” and that the team was able to complete all the tasks assigned to it.  NASA will now evaluate the test data before deciding if it can schedule another mission launch for the target date of September 27th.

The agency had to cancel previous launches due to a fuel leak problem. A few days later, the team determined that the leak was caused by a brief overpressure in the main booster tank of the SLS rocket. To prevent the same incident from happening again, the team adjusted the procedures for filling the rocket tank with fuel.
