DJI Unveils Avata Blue Woop Drone

The latest DJI drone is officially unveiled today.  It’s called Avata, and the company says it’s the “ultimately immersive drone experience” for First Person View (FPV) fans. According to DJI creative director Ferdinand Wolf, it is paired with DJI Goggles 2 and a DJI Motion controller to provide a “nearly out-of-body FPV flight experience.” However, it can also be controlled using the DJI FPV 2 and DJI FPV Googles V2 remote controller.

Avata has an 18-minute battery life on a 2420 mAh battery and weighs 410 grams.  It has built-in propeller guards for indoor safety, and the 155-degree ultra-wide-angle camera is equipped with a 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor.

The drone can shoot 4K video at a frame rate of up to 60 fps with a maximum bit rate of 150 Mbps. It can also shoot 2.7K video at up to 120 frames per second.

The maximum flight speed is 27 m / s, that is, 97 km / h. You can accelerate to such speeds in manual mode. Two more are also available: normal and sporty. For the first of them, the maximum speed is limited to 8 m/s (about 29 km/h), and for the sports one – 14 m/s, i.e. 50.8 km/h.

Together with Avata, the new DJI Goggles 2 glasses are also presented. Their weight is 290 grams. They are equipped with a single 0.49-inch microOLED screen with Full HD resolution.

The drone has already started selling.  It is available in three trim levels:

  • – just a drone – 579 €, 499 £ or $629;
  • – drone with new glasses – 1429 €, 1229 £ or $1388;
  • – a drone with old DJI FPV Goggles V2 goggles can be bought in the US for $1168.
