Always-on screen is coming with iOS 16? – Smartphone news

At last, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max could arrive on the market with an always-on display option – something that most Android users mock iPhones about.
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple could add this feature in the upcoming iOS 16 update, allowing the iPhone to display some information on the screen while it’s locked. This feature is expected to be available only for the Pro and Pro Max models.

Also, from what we’ve seen on the web, the upcoming iPhone Pro and Pro Max models will rock the new A16 Bionic chip, a brand new 48MP main camera sensor, and a strange-looking Face ID cutout.

My prediction is that the always-on screen won’t be available on the lower models than Pro and Pro Max mainly because of the screen technology. Always-on is well known to draw a bit more battery (Android perspective) and this may be an issue for iPhones that do not have the ProMotion technology which actively controls the refresh rate which if not controlled will drain even more battery. I won’t be surprised if the new iPhones come with an LTPO screen, similar to the Apple Watch, as it’ll play a major role in the always-on working well and not drawing too much power.
